Privacy Policy

StudyChessBoard is a website where you can play chess against other players and bots, get a review of your games that shows which tactical motifs you played and which you missed, practise the gaps, and convert chess files. This page explains what data we collect, why, who receives it and how you can control it.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The data controller within the meaning of the GDPR is:

2. What data we process

2.1. Account data

When you register, we store:

• your e-mail address;
• your display name (nickname) and, if you provide it, your name;
• your interface language and your board and piece settings;
• your password as an irreversible hash only — we never store or see the original;
• the time you accepted the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and the version you accepted;
• your registration date and last login date.

We do not ask for a date of birth, postal address, phone number or identity documents at registration.

2.2. Signing in with Google

If you sign in with Google, we receive your e-mail address, your name and your Google account identifier, solely to create and link your account. We get no access to your mail, contacts or files.

2.3. Games and reviews

• games you play, with moves, clock times, result and opponent;
• your rating and its history;
• game reviews: which tactical motifs the analysis found, played and missed;
• practice results and your skills profile;
• your credit balance and the history of credits earned and spent.

Games played by a guest without an account are not tied to a person; they are identified only by a technical guest identifier.

2.4. Files you upload

Chess files you upload to the converter are used only to produce the result you asked for. Please do not upload files that contain other people's personal data.

2.5. Technical data

• IP address and connection time;
• browser and device type (User-Agent);
• session and guest identifiers;
• server log entries.

2.6. Payments

Credit packages are paid through our payment partner PayPro Global, acting as merchant of record. Card details are entered on their side — they never reach us and we do not store them. From PayPro Global we receive order information: order number, amount, currency, status and the payer's e-mail address. We need this to credit your balance, to keep our books and to meet legal requirements.

4. Advertising and analytics

We advertise StudyChessBoard through Google Ads and measure visits with Google Analytics. These tools set cookies and receive technical data about your visit (pages viewed, approximate location, device, the ad you came from, and whether you registered) only if you click "Accept" in the cookie banner. Until then, no analytics or advertising tags are loaded, and Google is told that analytics and advertising storage are denied.

You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Declining does not limit what you can do on the site.

Google may process this data outside the European Economic Area; the transfer relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or another lawful mechanism. We do not show advertising on the site itself, and we do not pass your account data to advertising networks.

5. Children

The site is not directed at children under 16. An account for a child under 16 must be created by a parent or other legal guardian, who accepts the terms on the child's behalf. Some EU countries set a lower age limit — in that case the limit set by your country's law applies. A parent or guardian may request a copy, correction or deletion of the child's data at support@wbchess.com.

6. Who receives the data

We do not sell personal data. Data goes only to those without whom the site cannot run:

• Hosting provider — our servers and database are located in Estonia, that is, inside the European Union.
• PayPro Global — payment processing, invoicing, refunds.
• Google — reCAPTCHA (protection of forms against bots), Google sign-in if you use it, and, with your consent, Google Analytics and Google Ads.
• E-mail provider — delivery of service e-mails.
• Other players — your nickname and rating are visible to your opponents and to other players when you play.
• Public authorities — only where the law requires it and only to the extent required.

7. Where data is stored

The application servers and the database are located in Estonia, within the European Union. Transfers to Google are described in section 4.

8. How long we keep data

• Account, games and review data — for as long as the account exists.
• After a deletion request — we delete or anonymise account data within 30 days, except for what we are legally required to keep.
• Payment and accounting records — for the period required by the accounting legislation of the Republic of Serbia, regardless of account deletion.
• Server logs and connection records — up to 12 months.
• Analytics data — according to the retention setting of our Google Analytics property, no longer than 14 months.

9. Your rights

If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to:

• obtain a copy of your data;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• request deletion of your data;
• restrict or object to processing;
• receive your data in a machine-readable format and transfer it to another controller;
• withdraw consent you have given — this does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal;
• lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.

10. Cookies and local storage

We use the cookies the site cannot work without and, only with your consent, the cookies of Google Analytics and Google Ads.

In your browser's local storage we keep your cookie choice and interface conveniences such as the last open tab and a short list of recently reviewed games. This data stays on your device.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, but signing in and playing will then not work.

11. How we protect data

• The connection to the site is encrypted with HTTPS.
• Passwords are stored as hashes only.
• Database access is restricted and protected by separate credentials.
• We never receive or store card details.

No system on the internet is perfectly secure. If a data breach does occur and creates a risk to your rights, we will notify the supervisory authority and the affected users within the time limits set by the GDPR.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and change the date at the top. We will announce significant changes by e-mail or with a notice on the site.
